Rooted in the energy of Brooklyn nightlife, Coat Checks turns the details of a night out into something you can wear.
The first collection
It started with a coat check ticket.
Tickets collecting at the bottom of Elias's purse after nights out in Brooklyn became the inspiration for the Coat Check Dress. Designed in December 2024 for the brand's first collection, “Night crawler,” the digitally printed piece places culturally unlucky numbers alongside angel numbers for an intentional contrast.
The collection explored a street-to-club wardrobe through hand-dyeing, fabric painting and upcycling, drawing on the atmosphere and experiences of a Brooklyn warehouse party.
The designer
Meet Elias Smith.
Elias is a New York City–based designer whose work spans dress design, eveningwear and streetwear. Her hands-on practice brings together sewing, pattern making, CAD, tech packs and cost-conscious design.
Her experience includes client commissions and assistant design work at SL Fashion in New York and Dulce Bestia, a label under House of Skye in West Hollywood. Her portfolio covers editorial and red-carpet looks, fashion shows and garment production.
